Week of September 28th - October 2nd

2nd Grade Math
This week we began our unit on Place Value up to 100. In this unit the children will be able to count, read and write whole numbers to 100 and identify the place value of each digit.
We also continued to work on our addition and subtraction facts.

1st Grade Reading
We continued to work with the Wilson Fundations Reading program. We are now working on tapping to read words. The students tap out each individual sound and then blend the word together. We have also been working on basic sight words, handwriting and comprehension skills.

Afternoon Reading
Once again my afternoon Reading group has been very busy. We read a story called Sad, Glad and Mad and worked with -ab, -and, and - ack words. We continue to focus on fluency and comprehension strategies. The boys have also been working on guided reading. I select books for them to read at their own Reading level. I will continue to send books home with my students. Please enjoy them with your child at home.

Afternoon Math
This week we started on a new chapter on Geometry and Fractions. The boys were introduced to spheres, cones, cubes, cylinders, pyramids and rectangular prisms. We also compared the figures to see if we can roll, stack and slide the objects.
