Week of October 5th - 9th

2nd Grade Math
We began Chapter 4 this week on Number Concepts and Patterns. We will learn about ordinal numbers, comparing numbers, using greater than, less than, equal to and rounding.

1st Grade Reading
This week in Reading we continued to work with our Wilson Fundations program. We focused on tapping to read words. For example to read the word "nut" students will tap out individual sounds and then blend the sounds together. My students did very well with this. We also focused on reading sentences with fluency and comprehension skills.

Afternoon Math
This week in Math we continued to work with shapes. We concentrated on spheres, cones, cubes, cylinders, pyramids and rectangular prisms. We looked at the shapes and decided if they could roll, stack or slide. We also discussed sides, corners and curves.

Afternoon Reading
We worked on a variety of activities this week in Reading. We continue to work with reading words with short vowel sounds. We read various stories including: The Little Red Hen, A Crab, Just Like Me and Pumpkin Pumpkin. We focused on fluency and comprehension skills throughout our reading.
