Week of March 17th - 20th

First Grade

Reading and Language Arts
Please continue to study sight words at home.
This week we read a story called, The Forest. This is a non-fiction story about the different plants and animals that we may encounter in the woods. As we read we practiced predicting to guess what else we may find in the forest.
Please keep reading the books in the children's purple folders.

Spelling
Words for next week include: cow, house, down, now, found, out, pouch, crowded

Math
We are still working on addition and subtraction and how they relate to each other. When we get back from spring break we will be focusing on telling time.

Second Grade

Reading and Language Arts
This week we worked on a reading/writing workshop. Our focus was on writing a narrative essay about a personal experience. We talked about the elements of a good story. We also worked on abbreviations and proofreading our work.
Please continue to have your child read the leveled books that I am sending home with them.

Spelling
Words for next week include: I'll, we've, I'm, you're, isn't, didn't, you'll, I've, it's, we'll, can't, it, us

Math
This week we compared and ordered numbers to 1,000 and we did problem solving with 3 digit numbers.

Week of March 10th - 13th

First Grade

Reading and Language Arts
Please continue to study sight words at home.
We read a very popular story called If You Give A Pig A Pancake. The story is about a very demanding pig who visits a little girl one day. We reviewed strategies such as recognizing fantasy and reality as well as questioning, viewing categories, and how to read a recipe.
Please keep reading the books in the children's purple folders.

Spelling
Words for next week include: cup, frog, tree, cups, frogs, trees, gloves, birds

Math
We started our new chapter on
exploring the relationships between addition and subtraction through the use of concrete materials.

Second Grade

Reading and Language Arts
This week we started a new theme called, Family Time. Our story this week was Brothers and Sisters. It is a photo essay about the many variations of sibling relationships. We discussed verbs, vowel pairs, and making generalizations as we read.
Please continue to have your child read the leveled books that I am sending home with them.

Spelling
Words for next week include: who, many, a lot, our, cannot, here, were, friend, first, would, today, could

Math
We took our chapter test this week. We also started our new chapter on patterns and numbers to 1,000.

March 4th - 7th

First Grade


Reading and Language Arts

We read the story Lost. This is a story about a bear who gets lost in the city and he finds a boy to help him.

Spelling
Words for next week include: food, moon, room, soon, too, zoo, balloon

Math
We will be completing our chapter on money next week. In our next chapter we will explore the relationship between addition and subtraction through the use of concrete materials.


Second Grade


Reading and Language Arts
This week we worked on a theme review. We read two selections about dinosaurs and then we compared the literature.
Please continue to have your child read the leveled books that I am sending home with them.

Math
We worked on choosing the appropriate tool to measure height, length, capacity, and weight. We will be taking our chapter test next week. Our next chapter will focus on patterns and numbers to 1,000.
