Week of October 1st - 5th

2nd Grade Math

This week we worked on Chapter 4 of our Math series.  This chapter works with number concepts and patterns.  We have been working with ordinal numbers and comparing numbers with greater than, less than and equal to.

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we read the story - The Thesaurus
Vocabulary discussed in the story: synonyms, antonyms, thesaurus, fascinated, daydream, mischievous, determined

 

1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

We have been reviewing our letters with the Jolly Phonics program.  This week we worked on the letters - h, r, m, d, g, o, u, l, f, b
We also read Adding the Baseball Field - our Readers Theater story

2nd Grade Reading

This week we read a book called  - Farmer Mike.  We also read several leveled books during guided reading. 

2nd Grade Reading - Tier 3

This week we worked on Lesson 3, 4, 5 and 6 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.  We read 4 stories -The Sea, The Tide Pool, Down the River and Things That Fly.  Keep an eye out for the yellow folder that comes home with your child everyday. 

Week of September 24th - 28th

2nd Grade Math

This week we started our chapter on Place Value.  We learned to identify values of digits in the tens and ones place.  We also concentrated on addition and subtraction facts. 

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we read the story - Raining Cats, Dogs and Other Animals
Vocabulary discussed in the story - dangled, experiment, glorious, parched, scattered, sopping, tournament

 

1st Grade - Tier 3

We also read Animals Have Patterns - our Readers Theater story

 

2nd Grade Reading

This week we concentrated on poetry and read a book about a storyteller - Alma Flor Ada From A Family of Storytellers.  We also read several leveled books during guided reading. 

1st Grade Math

This week we concentrated on subtraction.  We have been working on solving problems using pictures and counting cubes.  We have also been concentrating heavily on our "teen" numbers. 

 

2nd Grade Tier 3

This week we worked on Lesson 1 and 2 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.  We read two stories - The Little Red Hen and Things That Fly.  Keep an eye out for the yellow folder that comes home with your child everyday. 

Week of September 17th - 21st

2nd Grade Math

This week we completed Chapter 2 our our Math series.  This chapter focused on subtraction strategies.  Starting on Monday we will be working on Chapter 3 which focuses on place value up to 100.

1st Grade Math

This week we completed Chapter 2 of our Math series.  We have worked on addition using pictures, counting blocks and touch math.  We have also been reviewing our teen numbers (13, 14, 15, etc).

RTI

All of my Reading and Math groups will be starting next Monday.  I am really looking forward to it!

Week of September 10th - 14th

2nd Grade Math

We continued to work on our chapter on addition this week.  We will be having our test next Monday.  Chapter 2 will cover subtraction strategies.  Please encourage your child to do his/her homework at home.  I am proud of how hard my 2nd graders have been working in Math!

1st Grade Math

This week we completed our test on Chapter 1 and began Chapter 2 - Addition Concepts.  We will be using pictures and symbols to write addition sentences.  We will also work on solving addition problems with manipulatives. 

Friday, September 7th

Welcome Back!

This has been a great start to the school year!  I love seeing all of your children's smiling faces everyday.  The RTI team has been very busy gathering data for both Math and Reading.  This will be helpful in determining how we can develop the best educational program for your children.  RTI groups will be in full swing beginning Monday, September 24th.

1st Grade Math

Small group instruction in Math began last week.  We have been working on one-to-one correspondence, greater than and less than.  We will have our chapter test early next week and will begin Chapter Two on addition concepts. 

2nd Grade Math

Small group instruction will start on Monday, September 10th.  We will be working on addition strategies. 

Week of May 7th - 11th

2nd Grade Math
We are working on our chapter on 3 digit addition.  We will work on estimating sums and problem solving.  Our next chapter will be on 3 digit subtraction.


1st Grade Reading
We completed Unit 11 of our Wilson Fundations program.   We will start Unit 12 on Monday.  In this unit students will learn about the suffix ending -es.

2nd Grade Reading
We are working on Unit 15 of our Wilson Fundations program.  In this unit students will learn how to read and spell words with the four spellings of /u/.  (oo, ou, ue, ew)

Week of April 30th - May 4th

2nd Grade Math
Next week we will begin a new chapter on 3 digit addition.  Students will start with using mental math to add with multiples of 100.  Then we will add 3 digits with and without regrouping. 
We’ll begin a new chapter this week ~ 3 Digit Addition.


1st Grade Reading
We are working on Unit 11 of the Wilson Fundations program.  This unit focuses on syllables instead of sounds.  Students will work on reading and spelling two syllable words with closed syllables.

2nd Grade Reading
Students are working on Unit 14 of the Wilson Fundations program.  In this unit students will work on reading and spelling words with the vowel teams ou and ow.
