Week of March 11th - 15th

2nd Grade Math

This week we took our Math test on Measurement.   We also started our chapter on Weight, Mass, Capacity and Temperature.  We have also been reviewing money, time and math facts. 

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we read a story called Wooly and Fang.  Next week we will be reading Ships of Discovery.  

1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

We are currently working on Unit 7 of the Wilson Program.  In this unit I will be introducing new glued sounds.  There will be four new glued sounds with ng (ang, ing, ong, ung) and four ending with nk (ank, ink, onk, unk).  These new sounds do have individual sounds but they are closely glued together.

 

2nd Grade Reading

This week we worked on a Writing Workshop activity.  We wrote personal narratives.  Everyone worked so hard this week!

1st Grade Math

This week we completed Chapter 15 which discussed the concept of spatial sense.  We started Chapter 16 which introduces fractions. 

2nd Grade Reading - Tier 3

This week we worked on Lesson 70, 71 and 72 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.  We read 3 stories.  Keep an eye out for the yellow folder that comes home with your child daily.  It is very important that your children are reading these books with you daily.

Week of February 25th - March 1st

2nd Grade Math

This week we took our Math test on Plane Figures.  Everyone did really well!!  Next week we will begin our chapter on Measurement.  We have also been reviewing money, time and math facts. 

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we read a story called National Parks.  Next week we will be reading Building Big Dreams.  

1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

We are currently working on Unit 6 of the Wilson Program.  In this unit we are working on basewords and the suffix -s.  We will be adding the -s suffix to words studied in previous units.  We will also be working on the concept of plurals.   

2nd Grade Reading

We read several books this week including: Bonk's Bad Dream and It Comes From An Egg.

1st Grade Math

This week we worked on Chapter 14 which works with Patterns.   We also continue to work with Math Facts. 

2nd Grade Reading - Tier 3

This week we worked on Lesson 77, 78 and 79 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.  We read 3 stories.  Keep an eye out for the yellow folder that comes home with your child daily.  It is very important that your children are reading these books with you daily.

Week of February 11th - 15th

This week we took our Math test on Solid Figures.  Next week we will begin our chapter on Plane Figures and Spatial Sense.  We have also been reviewing money, time and math facts. 

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we read a story called Bites and Stings.  Next week we will be reading Sea Turtles.  

1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

We are currently working on Unit 3 of the Wilson Program.  In this unit we are working on the ff, ll, ss bonus letter rule.  At the end of a one syllable word, if the word has one vowel immediately followed by an f, l or s at the end, double that consonant. 

Examples: hill, miss, puff 

We have also been working with the glued sound -all.

2nd Grade Reading

This week we read numerous stories about Ants, Earthworms and Valentine's Day. 

 

1st Grade Math

This week we completed Chapter 12 of our Math book.  Next week we will be working on Chapter 13.  This chapter works with 3-D shapes. 

2nd Grade Reading - Tier 3

This week we worked on Lesson 71, 72, 73 and 74 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.  We read 4 stories.  Keep an eye out for the yellow folder that comes home with your child daily.  It is very important that your children are reading these books with you daily. 

Week of February 4th - 8th

2nd Grade Math

We completed our chapter on Time this week.   We began our chapter on solid and plane figures.   Keep working on Math facts and counting change at home!

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we read a story called Polar Regions.  Next week we will be reading Bites and Stings.  

1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

2nd Grade Reading

This week we worked on a biographical time line.  The children in my groups worked on Blackbeard the Pirate.  Everyone had a great time learning more about Pirates and making interesting timelines!!

 

1st Grade Math

This week we worked on Chapter 12. Students explored higher numbers and generalized patterns. We spent a lot of time counting by 2's, 5's and 10's. 

2nd Grade Reading - Tier 3

This week we worked on Lesson 67, 68, 69 and 70 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.  We read 4 stories.  Keep an eye out for the yellow folder that comes home with your child daily.  It is very important that your children are reading these books with you daily.   

Week of January 22nd - 25th

2nd Grade Math

We completed our chapter on Money this week.    Next week we will begin our chapter on Time.   Keep working on Math facts and counting change at home!

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we continued to read a story called The Seven Modern Wonders of the World.  Next week we will be reading Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tsunamis.  

1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

My intervention group has changed.  We are now working on the Wilson Fundations program.  We are currently working on Unit 2.  In this unit we are working on how to blend and read three sound short vowel words.  We are also working on Leveled Readers. 

2nd Grade Reading

We concentrated on Guided Reading this week. 

1st Grade Math

This week we worked on Chapter 11 which works on the order of numbers.  We compared and contrasted numbers while using words "greater than", "less than" and "equals to."

2nd Grade Reading - Tier 3

This week we worked on Lesson 59, 60, 61 and 62 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.  We read 5 stories.  Keep an eye out for the yellow folder that comes home with your child daily. 

Week of December 10th - 14th

2nd Grade Math

This week we completed Chapter 9 of our Math series.  This chapter worked on data and graphs.  Our next chapter covers Probability.   Keep working on Math facts at home!

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we continued to read a story called Our Solar System.  Next week we will be reading Volcanoes.  

1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

We are now working on Step 2 of the Jolly Phonics program which deals with trick words and blending words.   We worked on lesson 34, 35, 36 and 37 of our LLI program.   We read 4 stories this week.  Please keep an eye out for the purple folder that comes home with your child daily. 

2nd Grade Reading

This week we worked on our persuasive essays.  The kids wrote about what they would like for Christmas. 

1st Grade Math

This week we completed chapter 10 of our Math series - this chapter works on Probability.  We have also been heavily focusing on number sense and computation.

This week we worked on Lesson 42, 43, 44, 45 and 46 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.  We read 5 stories.  Keep an eye out for the yellow folder that comes home with your child daily. 

Week of December 3rd - 7th

2nd Grade Math

This week we completed Chapter 8 of our Math series.  This chapter worked on 2-digit subtraction with regrouping.  Our next chapter covers data and graphs.   Keep working on Math facts at home!

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we continued to read a story called Ghosts in the House.  Next week we will be reading Our Solar System.

This week we read a book called Celia.  We also read several leveled books during guided reading.
