2nd Grade Math
This week we took our Chapter test on Measurement. When we return from Spring Break we will be working with weight, mass, capacity and temperature.
1st Grade Reading
We are working on Unit 10 of the Wilson Fundations program. In this unit students will learn to blend and segment up to five sounds in a closed syllable.
2nd Grade Reading
We are working on Unit 12 of the Wilson Fundations program. In this unit students are practicing with two more vowel teams: oi and oy. Students have learned that oy is used only at the end of a syllable, while oi is used at the beginning or in the middle of a syllable.

Week of March 12th - 16th
2nd Grade Math
This week we have been working with measurement. My students have been having fun working on a lot of hands on activities in the classroom. They are learning to make estimates using inches, feet and yards. They will also learn how to measure in centimetes and meters. We also continue to review skills learned earlier in the year including: double digit addition and subtraction, telling time and counting change.
1st Grade Reading
We completed Unit 9 of our Wilson Fundations program. Our next unit does not introduce any new sounds. Instead students will learn to blend and segment up to five sounds in a close syllable.

Welcome to Mr. Diamond, our new student teacher! He will be working in my classroom for the next seven weeks.

We have been working with plane figures to make new figures. We have also worked with rotation of shapes and lines of symmetry.
1st Grade Reading
We are currently working on Unit 9 of our Wilson Fundations program. This unit reviews the reading and spelling of previous word patterns. No new word patterns are taught, just a new concept.

A digraph contains two consonants and only makes one sound, such as /sh/. A blend contains two consonants but they make their own sound, such as /s/ and /l/, /sl/.

1st Grade Reading
We are working on Unit 7 of the Wilson Fundations program. We are working with 8 new glued sounds (ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, unk). These glued sounds have individual sounds but they are closely glued together.
2nd Grade Reading
We are working with Unit 9 of the Wilson Fundations program. In this unit students will learn the remaining r-controlled sound combinations: er, ir and ur.
Students will learn to read and spell these r-controlled syllables in isolation and when combined with other syllable types.

We continued to work with money this week. We were working on counting change and making change. We will have our chapter test early next week. Please practice counting money with your children whenever possible.

We continued to work on Unit 7 of our Wilson Fundations program. We are working with new glued sounds ending with ng (ang, ing, ong, ung) and nk (ank, ink, onk, unk).
These new sounds have individual sounds but they are closely glued together.
