It has been a wonderful week! It was great to meet many of you at our Open House on Monday. I know this will be an exciting school year. Mark your calendars for our 1st and 2nd grade Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 10th. I hope to see many of you there.
This week I started my 1st and 2nd grade Math groups. I will be starting my Reading and Language Arts groups on September 22nd. I am looking forward to helping your children this year.

This week we read the last story in our anthology, The Hat. It is about a friend named Frog who gives his friend Toad a hat that is the wrong size.

We continued to review addition and subtraction facts. Please keep working on this at home.

We worked on a theme review this week. We read two stories, Raymond's Best Summer and Join the Circus. We compared and contrasted the stories and looked at literature.

This week we read Fireflies for Nathan. This is a story about a boy who spends some time with his Grandparents. They catch fireflies in a jar just like his father used to do when he was six years old.
The library has requested that I return all the books so I will no longer be sending home books in the children's purple folders.

This week the children started our chapter on measurement. They are doing very well. We measured with inches and centimeters. We have also been exploring weight.

We did not read a regular story from our Reading Anthology this week. Instead we focused on Earth Day projects and completed our expository paper about Rain forest animals. The children did a great job on their papers! I am very proud of them.
