1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

This week we worked on Lessons 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.   We read five stories.  Please keep an eye out for the book pouch that comes home with your child daily.  It is very important that your children are reading these books with you daily.

1st Grade Math - Tier 2

This week we have been working on Number Sense activities.  Many of the students in this group are having difficulties with numbers in the teens.
We have also been working on different strategies for subtraction.  The children did very well with drawing circles and crossing them out to solve their subtraction problems.  

2nd Grade Reading - Tier 2

This week we worked on Lessons 51 and 52 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.   We read three stories. Please keep an eye out for the book pouch that comes home with your child daily.  It is very important that your children are reading these books with you daily.

Week of March 18th - 22nd

2nd Grade Math

This week we took our Math test on Weight, Mass, Capacity and Temperature.  We had fun using all of the hands on tools to measure.   We have also been reviewing money, time and math facts. 

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we read a story called Ships of Discovery.  Next week we will be reading Titanic Treasure.  

1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

We are currently working on Unit 7 of the Wilson Program.  In this unit I will be introducing new glued sounds.  There will be four new glued sounds with ng (ang, ing, ong, ung) and four ending with nk (ank, ink, onk, unk).  These new sounds do have individual sounds but they are closely glued together.

 

2nd Grade Reading

This week we read the story Jalapeno Bagels.  When we return from break we will be reading a story called Carousel. 

1st Grade Math

This week we have been working with fractions.  We began with whole amounts and discussed how they could divide them into equal parts.  We introuduced one-half, one- third and one-fourth. 

2nd Grade Reading - Tier 3

This week we worked on Lesson 76, 77, 78 and 79 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.  We read 4 stories.  Keep an eye out for the yellow folder that comes home with your child daily.  It is very important that your children are reading these books with you daily.

Week of March 11th - 15th

2nd Grade Math

This week we took our Math test on Measurement.   We also started our chapter on Weight, Mass, Capacity and Temperature.  We have also been reviewing money, time and math facts.

Week of February 25th - March 1st

2nd Grade Math

This week we took our Math test on Plane Figures.  Everyone did really well!!  Next week we will begin our chapter on Measurement.  We have also been reviewing money, time and math facts. 

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we read a story called National Parks.  Next week we will be reading Building Big Dreams.  

1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

We are currently working on Unit 6 of the Wilson Program.  In this unit we are working on basewords and the suffix -s.  We will be adding the -s suffix to words studied in previous units.  We will also be working on the concept of plurals.   

2nd Grade Reading

We read several books this week including: Bonk's Bad Dream and It Comes From An Egg.

1st Grade Math

This week we worked on Chapter 14 which works with Patterns.   We also continue to work with Math Facts.

1st Grade Reading - Tier 3

We are currently working on Unit 3 of the Wilson Program.  In this unit we are working on the ff, ll, ss bonus letter rule.  At the end of a one syllable word, if the word has one vowel immediately followed by an f, l or s at the end, double that consonant. 

Examples: hill, miss, puff 

We have also been working with the glued sound -all.

2nd Grade Reading

This week we read numerous stories about Ants, Earthworms and Valentine's Day. 

 

1st Grade Math

This week we completed Chapter 12 of our Math book.  Next week we will be working on Chapter 13.  This chapter works with 3-D shapes.

We completed our chapter on Time this week.   We began our chapter on solid and plane figures.   Keep working on Math facts and counting change at home!

This week we worked on a biographical time line.  The children in my groups worked on Blackbeard the Pirate.  Everyone had a great time learning more about Pirates and making interesting timelines!!

This week we worked on Chapter 12. Students explored higher numbers and generalized patterns. We spent a lot of time counting by 2's, 5's and 10's.

1st Grade Reading - Enrichment

This week we continued to read a story called The Seven Modern Wonders of the World.  Next week we will be reading Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tsunamis.

My intervention group has changed.  We are now working on the Wilson Fundations program.  We are currently working on Unit 2.  In this unit we are working on how to blend and read three sound short vowel words.  We are also working on Leveled Readers.

We concentrated on Guided Reading this week.

This week we worked on Chapter 11 which works on the order of numbers.  We compared and contrasted numbers while using words "greater than", "less than" and "equals to."

This week we started our chapter on Place Value.  We learned to identify values of digits in the tens and ones place.  We also concentrated on addition and subtraction facts.

This week we concentrated on subtraction.  We have been working on solving problems using pictures and counting cubes.  We have also been concentrating heavily on our "teen" numbers. 

 

2nd Grade Tier 3

This week we worked on Lesson 1 and 2 of our Leveled Literacy Intervention.  We read two stories - The Little Red Hen and Things That Fly.  Keep an eye out for the yellow folder that comes home with your child everyday. 

Week of September 17th - 21st

2nd Grade Math

This week we completed Chapter 2 our our Math series.  This chapter focused on subtraction strategies.  Starting on Monday we will be working on Chapter 3 which focuses on place value up to 100.

1st Grade Math

This week we completed Chapter 2 of our Math series.  We have worked on addition using pictures, counting blocks and touch math.  We have also been reviewing our teen numbers (13, 14, 15, etc).

All of my Reading and Math groups will be starting next Monday.  I am really looking forward to it!

Week of September 10th - 14th

2nd Grade Math

We continued to work on our chapter on addition this week.  We will be having our test next Monday.  Chapter 2 will cover subtraction strategies.  Please encourage your child to do his/her homework at home.  I am proud of how hard my 2nd graders have been working in Math!

1st Grade Math

This week we completed our test on Chapter 1 and began Chapter 2 - Addition Concepts.  We will be using pictures and symbols to write addition sentences.  We will also work on solving addition problems with manipulatives. 

Friday, September 7th

Welcome Back!

This has been a great start to the school year!  I love seeing all of your children's smiling faces everyday.  The RTI team has been very busy gathering data for both Math and Reading.  This will be helpful in determining how we can develop the best educational program for your children.  RTI groups will be in full swing beginning Monday, September 24th.

1st Grade Math

Small group instruction in Math began last week.  We have been working on one-to-one correspondence, greater than and less than.  We will have our chapter test early next week and will begin Chapter Two on addition concepts. 

2nd Grade Math

Small group instruction will start on Monday, September 10th.  We will be working on addition strategies.
